Point your iPhone at a foreign price and Kahei shows it in your home currency, live and even offline. Here is how to get the most out of it, and how to reach us.
Getting started
- 1. Set your currencies. In Settings, choose your home currency and the currency of the country you are in.
- 2. Point at a price. Aim the camera at a price tag, menu, or receipt. The converted amount appears over it.
- 3. Read a whole receipt. Switch from Price to Receipt for multiple prices and a total, or tap the keypad to type an amount by hand.
Common questions
- It shows the wrong currency
- Symbols like $ and ¥ are used by several currencies. Set your trip country in Settings so the app knows which one to assume, and you can override the source currency on a scan when needed.
- The rate looks old, or I see an offline warning
- The app converts using the most recent rate table it has downloaded, and it shows the rate date. When it cannot reach the rate service it keeps using the last table and marks it as carried over. Reconnect and refresh from Settings to get the latest.
- Can it read a whole receipt or menu?
- Yes. Switch from Price to Receipt under the camera to read several prices and the total at once.
- Where are my past scans?
- Recent scans are saved on your device under History. Long-press an entry to delete it, or clear the whole list. They never leave your phone.
- Does it work without a connection?
- Yes. Exchange rates are cached on your phone, and a fresh install ships with a recent rate table, so conversion works with no SIM and no Wi-Fi.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Kahei works with no sign-up. There are no ads and no tracking.
